A downloadable game

Sometimes farming seems cruel because it adjust the way plants grow in an artificial way for the sake of commercial success. Apple thinning might be one of them, but think in a different way. Apple thinning is an art. By sacrificing the mass of apples, we create elite apples through the hard work. We get to see beautifully grown apples in the end which was impossible without our care. How precious it is to collaborate with nature and grow delicious apples. And we can learn how to do it well by getting a high score in this game. 

This game is developed as an agriculture simulation and training research in the University of Canterbury UC vision team. It is continuously developed and deployed. Checkout the source code on GitHub! https://github.com/uc-vision/apple-thinning

Install instructions

You will need:

  • Oculus Quest
  • USB-C cable

Steps to sideload:

  1. Install SideQuest advanced installer (https://sidequestvr.com/) on your PC.
  2. Once finished, mount the Oculus Quest headset to the PC using USB-C cable. You might need allow USB debugging on your headset.
  3. Open SideQuest, on the top right, click a down arrow folder icon to install APK file from folder on computer. 
  4. After finish installation, go to Oculus Home on the headset > Open a dropdown saying All > Select Unknown source > locate the "apple-thinning" game. 
  5. Play the game!
